Barberton Schools Academic Hall of Fame Class of 2021

Dr. Timothy B. Cox, Class of 1971
 
Cox graduated from Barberton High School in 1971. He then earned both his Bachelor degree in Microbiology and his D.D.S. from The Ohio State University.
 
He started his career working with Dr. Loren Raymond in Norton, moving on to private practice in Orrville and in 1986, Fairlawn. He is grateful to have been able to attend many courses taught by world-class dental educators. He is also a life member of many groups, including the American Dental Association, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry Alumni Association and the Legacy Society of The Ohio State University President’s Club.
 
Cox currently resides in Barberton with his wife Gina. He has a daughter, Lindsay (Scott), son, Adam (Sylvia), step-son, Tim (Katie) and step-daughter, Lauren (Matt) who have blessed him with 11 grandchildren. He retired from private practice in 2020 and is teaching part-time as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
 
Carmen Lenora Dorman, Class of 1989                                         
 
Dorman graduated from Barberton High School in 1989. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Alabama State University in 1994 and returned to the area and earned her Masters of Public Administration from the University of Akron in 2016.
 
She started her career as a social worker and spent many years as that and as a juvenile parole officer.  After spending a year in Texas, she returned ‘home’ and implemented the Reentry Program for the Summit County Juvenile Court. Some of her outstanding achievements include graduating from Child & Family Leadership Exchange in 2019 and she was also honored with the Highpoint award through Summit County Juvenile Court for being named one of the employees of the year in 2014. Through the Ohio Department of Youth Services she was named one of the state employees of the year in 1997 and 2005.
 
She currently lives in Columbus, working as the Director of Programs and Operations for Star House, Incorporated. She has one son, Cameron Blackmon.
 
Dr. Gerald Horak, Class of 1968
 
Horak graduated from Barberton High school in 1968. He earned his B.S. in 1971, his M.S. in 1976, and Ed.D. in 1985, all in education, from The University of Akron.
 
Dedicating his entire career to education in the Akron area, he has taught everything from Kindergarten to Graduate school, been a Principal at all levels and a Superintendent and CEO of Summit Academy overseeing 26 schools specializing in autism. Community service is very important to him and has been a part of Barberton Salvation Army, Barberton Public Library, Southern Summit County Chamber of Commerce and Barberton Kiwanis.
 
He is currently retired and resides in Barberton where he lives with his wife Sharon, who is also a graduate of Barberton High School and former Home Ec. Teacher for the district. He has one son, Joseph and his wife, Christina, and is most proud to be called Papa by his two grandchildren, Phillip and Charlotte.
 
Danny J. Lightfoot, Class of 1979
 
Lightfoot graduated from Barberton High School in 1979 and received his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1983 from The Ohio State University. In 2008, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University.

After graduating, he worked at JC Penney in Toledo, Ohio as a department manager. He then began working at State Farm Insurance in Newark as a claims manager working there for a number of years. He then worked for State Auto Insurance in Columbus as a Property & Casualty insurance provider in corporate claims. Lightfoot has been affiliated with Toastmaster International, Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Advisory Council and E.D.G.E. (Excelling, Developing, Growing and Empowering).

Lightfoot resides in Pickerington with his wife, Pamela. He recently retired from Nationwide Insurance Company. He has a daughter, Shaina Hutson (Ray) and a son, DJ (Estephany) and three grandchildren.

William R. Martin, Class of 1959
 
Martin graduated from Barberton High School in 1959 and from Kent State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. While at Kent State, amongst other activities, he was a sports editor for the Daily Kent Stater, publicist and ticket manager for student musical productions and was the recipient of the “Lincoln Hackim Award for Excellence in Sports Writing”.

After college graduation, he became a fifth grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary here in Barberton and also coached basketball. During his career, he served as Director of Communications for the Ohio Education Association in Columbus and the National Education Association in Washington, D.C.
 
A resident of Worthington, Martin in 2009 wrapped up his public relations consultant service company and retired after a 46-year career in education and communications. Widowed after 50 years of marriage to Bonnie (Dague) Martin--also a BHS graduate in 1959--they had two children, Lisa (Martin) Gilgen and David. He has three grandchildren Connor, Katherine, and Carter Gilgen.

Patrick McCulligan, Class of 1987
 
McCulligan graduated from Barberton in 1987, then earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Akron and his MBA in Supply Chain and Operations from Northeastern University in 2013.
 
Some of his key professional accomplishments include being an experienced Materials, Planning and Logistics Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the Automotive Industry, continuously advancing a career with Ford Motor Company (27 years) across multiple major manufacturing facilities in Ohio, New York, and Illinois.
 
Though based out of Chicago for work, he is currently residing in Crown Point, Indiana with his wife, Stacy (28 years) and twin daughters Emma & Chloe (21, Purdue University).  His oldest daughters reside in the Buffalo, New York area; Madison Wujek (26, Hilbert University 2017) and Carson (SUNY Brockport 2019). 
 
Efforts made towards Academic and Professional accomplishments will always be a high priority for McCulligan, but being a Husband and Father of four beautiful and amazing daughters will always be the most valued personal accomplishment and the source of his passion and inspiration to provide the best life possible for his family.  

Tracie Oden, Class of 1989
 
Oden graduated from Barberton in 1989 and then graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Biology. In 1992, she became a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, and in 2005 earned her MBA from Ashland University and a Human Resources Certification.
 
Working at Medco Health Solutions, she moved from Data Entry Supervisor to Regional HR Director. While there she had various operational roles over a 16 year period, but is most proud of her lead HR role in the 450,000 sq. ft. Greenfield Specialty Pharmacy built in Whitestone, Indiana. She then worked at Grace Chemical in a global Human Resources role and had responsibility for corporate and at a site in Worms, Germany. In 2017, she was selected to participate in a Professional Women’s Leadership Program at Towson University. In 2020, she became a member of the Baltimore Workforce Development Board, which is focused on finding viable working solutions for underserved Baltimore County residents. 
 
Oden currently lives in Laurel, Maryland, working as Vice-President for Human Resources Operations for LifeBridge Health in Baltimore overseeing 11,000+ employees. She is the proud auntie to eleven nieces and nephews and her family means everything to her!
