2019 Message from Mr. Ramnytz

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members:

Welcome to 2019,

We have a great deal of work to do in the second half of this school year and need your help.  We are preparing for the next round of testing and need our students in school “All Day Every Day”. Good attendance in school is a good habit that will spill over into college, career and a productive life.

The Ohio Department of Education has determined that if a child is absent 10 or more school days in a school year they are considered chronically truant.

The Barberton City Schools had 1410 students who had 10 or more days of absence last year and would be considered chronic truants by the state. In 2017-2018 our chronically truant percentage was 25.1% The state expects us to be 12% or lower for this year

We need to improve!

If they are not with us we cannot teach them.  Some absences were excused and legitimate, most were not. This can be devastating to a child’s education and progress. Some may be able to catch up, most cannot. Poor attendance patterns in school will carry over into adulthood.

If a child misses two days each month, they will reach the chronic truancy status by the end of the school year. We understand that children will get sick and we need them to stay home and rest to get better. If they are not sick and are able to get to school, please make sure they are at school with us.

We need your help, we are asking that you work with us and make sure your child attends school on a regular basis. Please check progress book daily to keep aware of your child’s attendance. We want all of our children to have great lives and it starts with being at school every day and receiving a great education.

Thank you

Mr. Jeff Ramnytz
Superintendent
