Johnson School is located in the West Side of Barberton near an area called "Johnson Corners". Johnson is the family name of a man who owned much of the property in the area. The school was originally a part of Norton and was called Johnson Corners School. It was annexed by Barberton in 1929. The school is home to the Johnson Dragons. School colors are yellow and green.
Johnson is proud of the work parents, staff, and students perform. This work is support by the PTA which is comprised of a group of dedicated parents and granparents. The PTA provides many programs and activities including school carnival, telegrams for students, Goodies for Grandparents, Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, Halloween and Valentine Day Parties, as well as Santa Shop and a winter and spring Book Fair.
Reading takes priority at Johnson School. All students read daily outside of school for a minimum of 20 minutes. Students are rewarded for their reading throughout the year with a free book of the choice. They also earn daily Dragon Dollars for reading which they exchange for items from the School Store, a Weekly Raffle Drawing, and attending grading period Reward Assemblies.
Johnson School focuses on four behavior and academic expectations. These are 1) Be Respectful, 2) Be Responsible, #) Be a Problem-Solver, and 4) Be a Learner. Students are taught and rewarded for their good character with Dragon Dollars they can spend at the school store, earn free books, lunch with a staff member of their choice, hot cheetos, extra recess, and/or Wii time.
Johnson staff work together to create a friendly environment with high expectations for both students and staff. The balanced literacy language program is individualized to meet the needs of all learners. Math is supported through weekly math fact practice as well as activities designed to encourage our students to problem solve and apply the skills they have learned throughout their learning.
Again, welcome to Johnson School!
