Homework This Week

My View on Homework:
Homework is very important to me. I do not believe in assigning a very large amount of homework every night. However I do believe that homework holds some important values that I am trying to teach my students. First, I use homework as a way for students to practice the things we are doing in the classroom. Secondly, I use homework as a way to teach responsibility. Students are being taught to take the homework home, complete it and bringing it back to school. However, I also understand that life happens. If your child is not able to complete their homework please send a letter with them to school and they will be excused. Similarly, if your child has reached their limit and only gets a part of the homework done, write me a note telling me so, and they will be excused or I will work one-on one with the student. I am not as concerned about the content as I am more concerned with teaching them responsibility.
Nightly Reading Homework:
Students should be reading for 10-20 minutes every night. I have started sending home books in a bag. Refer to that bag for a list of different activities that you can do with your child's nightly reading. Please make sure to sign the red reading folder, listing the book that was read and then signing that they have read. We are participating in Book It. I will be using these Red Folders as a way to tell if they completed enough reading to get a Pizza Hut pizza coupon, for that week.
Spelling Homework:
Monday: Write their spelling words in a sentence with correct capitalization and punctuation. Kindergarten students will be finding six pictures of words that start with the F sound.
Thursday: Study for your spelling test on Friday
Weekly Reading Skill Homework:
Tuesday: Kindergarten will be practicing their sight words. All others will be doing projectable 10.8 which will be found in their purple folder, Tuesday night!
Behavior Skill Homework:
Wednesday: The students will be completing a skill sheet that will allow them time to reflect on appropriate behavior.
